Made in Roath 2016, Spotlight on Exhibition

You might think at this point, after mentioning Stage, Spoken word, Digital Arts and CREATE we would be coming to the end of our list of things going on in this years Made in Roath but no we have plenty more to share with you. So much more in fact that we haven't even hit the half way point in the list of events. We are not done yet. Not by a long shot. Next up we have Exhibitions.

Made in Roath has always had a very diverse and renown exhibition programme, supported by some fantastic local galleries and cultural centres. This year sees exhibitions taking place in more unusual places too such as public locations and the wonderful homes and community spaces of Roath.

A notable aspect of Made in Roath is the chance for everyone wanting to share their creativity to be able to participate and exhibit with us and this years festival program continues this fine tradition (even if we do say so ourselves). Coordinated by Helen Clifford the exhibition program is massive (for lack of a more grammatically correct word) and offers such a wide range of exhibitions that trying to keep you up to date with it all is driving our media team slightly mad (although they weren’t exactly “normal” before). Made in Roath 2016, Spotlight on CREATE

If you’re the sort of person who enjoys creating things and possibly even making a mess, construing and producing something from nothing into a work of art then CREATE is the category you need to pay attention to during this years Made in Roath. CREATE is the new name for our workshops group and is coordinated by Pip Tudor.

With events for both adults and children taking place throughout the festival, we have a lot going on. In fact in terms of workshops and creative events it is our biggest year yet (YAY!).

CREATE is supported by our fantastic team of volunteer artists and makers who will be running all the events and playing a key part in both the Global Home Closed Road Festival on Saturday the 15th and at Roath Park Pleasure Gardens Bowling Pavilion on Sunday the 16th.

Notable CREATE events this year include the Puppet Parade, which will be starting at Global Home on Saturday the 15th, The Big Draw in St Martins Church with Becci Holmes, Mask Carving at the Roath Park Pavilion with Brain Denman and a whole host of other events at Global Home. On the following Sunday (16th of October) Cwtch Club Creature Making, Paint the Park and Felt Making are all happening in Roath Park. There are also a whole range of other events taking place throughout the week so keep an eye on our website and social media outlets for information.

An assortments of fantastic puppet will parade at Global home and we’ll have some wonderful Muppet movies (fun for all) at YMCA Plas. Made in Roath 2016, Spotlight on Spoken Word

Spoken word, what is it? The simple answer is that its words that are spoken out loud to people. The better answer is “Spoken Word” is a fantastic, insightful and thought provoking artistic discipline that stretches the mind, the imagination and the soul of an audience.
The spoken word aspect of Made in Roath has always been a beloved and important part of the festival for many years now.
Coordinated by Christina Thatcher this year promises to be another fantastic addition to our fine spoken word tradition. This year it offers exciting opportunities for writers and writing lovers. Throughout the week you can listen to travel writing, accounts of refugees and asylum seekers as well as traditional storytellers.  Starting with bringing your own words to the Rhyme and Real Ale open mic on the theme of Masculinity, Femininity or Other.
